The Importance of a Varied Diet

August 22, 2016 By Elizabeth Tapp

People with a history of  food sensitivities need to continue adding more whole foods to their diets. This decreases the likelihood of redeveloping food sensitivities. The immune system is highly involved in the daily functions of digestion. In fact, every time we eat immune cells are interacting with the foods and deciding in a split second whether they are a friend or foe. In the case of a food sensitivity the immune cells are reacting as if a food is a foe and launching an attack of inflammation. Following a targeted and custom elimination diet for food sensitivities the food sensitivities are no longer present. As we add more and more whole foods into the diet we give the immune system a variety of foods to look at therefore decreasing the likelihood of redeveloping food sensitivities. A varied diet also increases the profile of vitamins and minerals we are exposed to in our foods and limits toxic exposure. Avoiding processed foods and keeping to short ingredient lists of whole foods helps our immune systems to avoid confusion which can trigger a hyperactive immune system. A varied diet is one that includes several different proteins, starches, vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, oils, herbs and spices. Remember to eat a varied diet to enhance your health and decrease the risk of redeveloping food sensitivities.
