How do I avoid antibiotics?

November 16, 2015 By Elizabeth Tapp

Cold and flu season is here and keeping yourself from needing antibiotics to fight a infection is of utmost importance to keeping your gut healthy. Viru-chord and Inflammatone from Energetix are 2 homeopathic remedies that work to together to fight all viruses, including the flu.

Now instead of having several over the counter cold and flu medicines you can use these! Homeopathic remedies work to stimulate and support the immune system in the way it needs to fight viruses. Works wonderfully for children to prevent the dreaded ear infection with no side effects. Stock up now for winter. Call or email to get your remedy now!

Another tip is to decrease your overall food intake, focus on raw fruit and vegetables as well as fresh juices and smoothies the first day of feeling sick. Soup with plenty of vegetables, beans or lean meats with turmeric and ginger as tolerated will supply your body with the nutrition it needs to get well. Remember to get plenty of rest especially the first day your feeling sick!

Where should I shop?

November 16, 2015 By Elizabeth Tapp

Food shopping can easily be overwhelming while on a special diet. Talk with your dietitian about where you usually shop and they will let you know which items can be purchased there and how to obtain any other speciality products whether it be online or a specific health food store. Your dietitian will provide grocery lists and can make these notes for you to shop easier.

Also, be sure to check out our resources page. It has some great ideas for easy ways to shop for healthy foods!

What are portion sizes?

November 16, 2015 By Elizabeth Tapp

Portion sizes are so important but can be difficult to remember. Check out this nice article by Oldways Health through Heritage. They have other great links and handouts to support healthy eating such as food shopping, kitchen skills, ancient whole grains and much more.

The recommended book in their article “Mindless Eating: Why we eat more than we think” by Brian Wansink, Ph.D is a great book where the author conducts food experiments!
